Essential Questions: What are Natural Disasters? How do Natural Disasters effect us? Why is it important to have a preparedness plan and survival kit? What is a plan? How is your natural disaster formed? What is the Richter Scale and how is it used? What are warnings? What is tornado Alley and where is it located? What is the Fujiti Scale and why is it important?

The students learned about the importance of being prepared during a Natural Disaster and how this will effect them in real world situations. To understand the importance, first they needed to understand the meaning of Natural Disasters. The students collaborated with their teammates to come up with a list of natural disasters that could effect their lives and their families. After sharing the list, the student pulled a stick from the app called stickpic to determine groups and the natural disaster they will research for their presentations. Then they broke off into groups to being their research on their Natural Disaster. The students were given a several rubrics so they would understand the expectations of a survival kit presentation, preparedness family plan, and final presentation. Based on research, the students created a preparedness plan, survival kit, and a final presentation. They had voice and choice as to which presentation tool they would use: Haiku Deck, PowToon, Thinglink, Zoho Show, FlowBoard, and Prezi.
